The Essex Police Department, in partnership with the Board of Health, is once again participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s annual Drug Take Back Day. We will be on hand collecting expired, unused and unwanted prescriptions, as well as over the counter drugs, this Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Essex Public Safety Building, 11 John Wise Ave.

The Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea public safety departments notify the public that they will be participating in training at Manchester Essex Regional Middle High School on Saturday, April 13. Active Shooter Event Response (ASHER) training will begin at 9 a.m. Residents should be aware that there will be increased public safety and law enforcement presence in the area near the school during the training session. This drill is a part of routine interdepartmental training, which will reinforce important teamwork and communication skills among the departments during a high-risk response. Police will be using department radios to simulate real-life scenarios during training.

At about 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, a parent found four projectiles in a lost and found bin at the school. Administrators, following policies and procedures, notified the Manchester-by-the-Sea and Essex Police Departments immediately. A preliminary investigation determined that the projectiles did not have casing or primer, and therefore could not be fired. It is not clear when the projectiles may have been placed there.
