The decision was made this week by the Board of Health and Board of Selectmen to close Conomo Point to seasonal residents and only allow permanent year-round Essex residents onto the property.
This decision was made by our town officials out of an abundance of caution to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Please know that these decisions are not made lightly and are meant to keep people healthy and safe.
With Governor Charlie Baker’s stay-at-home advisory in effect, people should not be leaving their homes to come stay at their seasonal properties. That is not in the spirit of the advisory and does not promote social distancing.
To ensure that this order is followed, our department has placed no parking signs, cones and barricades along the parking areas and at the entrance of the parking lots. Additionally, a police officer will be present on Conomo Point Road at Sumac Drive to ensure that only Essex residents are entering the Point area and to educate the public to the new regulations.
Please know that this is not a permanent measure and we all look forward to the near future when things can return to normal. However, state and federal officials are predicting a surge in cases in the coming days and we all must do our part to stop the spread of this deadly disease.
We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this difficult time and we hope everyone stays healthy.
