*JOINT STATEMENT* *UPDATE* Manchester Essex Regional School District and Police Partners Share Information About Investigation on School Property

Superintendent Pam Beaudoin, Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Chief Todd Fitzgerald and Essex Police Chief Paul Francis are providing the following update to an investigation at Manchester Essex Regional Middle High School on Friday.

At about 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, a parent found four projectiles in a lost and found bin at the school. Administrators, following policies and procedures, notified the Manchester-by-the-Sea and Essex Police Departments immediately.

A preliminary investigation determined that the projectiles did not have casing or primer, and therefore could not be fired. It is not clear when the projectiles may have been placed there. A Friday afternoon High School open play rehearsal was rescheduled out of an abundance of caution.

Manchester-by-the-Sea and Essex Police officers and the Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit have concluded a search of the building and determined there was no threat to the school community.

The District has reopened the building to the public, and a scheduled basketball game will go on as planned.

Superintendent Beaudoin, Chief Fitzgerald, and Chief Francis wish to thank the Massachusetts State Police and its K-9 unit for its swift and professional response.
