Superintendent Pam Beaudoin, Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Chief Todd Fitzgerald and Essex Police Chief Paul Francis are providing the following update to an investigation at Manchester Essex Regional Middle High School on Friday. At about 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, a parent found four projectiles in a lost and found bin at the school. Administrators, following policies and procedures, notified the Manchester-by-the-Sea and Essex Police Departments immediately. A preliminary investigation determined that the projectiles did not have casing or primer, and therefore could not be fired. It is not clear when the projectiles may have been placed there. Essex Police Department Responds to Dispute; Report of Road Rage Proven Unfounded

Chief Paul Francis reports that the Essex Police Department responded to dispute in a parking lot on Tuesday, and determined that a report of a road rage incident was unfounded and that no weapons were involved. On Tuesday, Aug. 1, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Essex Police responded to a business parking lot on Eastern Avenue for a report of a dispute Responding officers were told that the incident had occurred 40 minutes earlier, and that one party had made threats, shown a firearm, and drove away. A suspect was quickly identified Monday night through aggressive, diligent investigative work. Officials no longer believe that there is any active threat against the school community. Essex Police Department Alerts Community to Planned Power Outage

Chief Paul Francis and the Essex Police Department would like to inform the community that about 500 National Grid customers in Essex will be affected by a planned power outage next week. In order to accommodate ongoing bridge work on Main Street, National Grid will be working to move utilities to a temporary construction location. In order to do that safely, the company will need to temporarily disconnect the electrical service of approximately 500 customers along route 133 in Essex. Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund Informational Forum in Essex

Essex, through the Board of Selectmen and the Essex Housing Coalition (which is supported by the Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association – CHAPA) is exploring the possibility of establishing a municipal affordable housing trust fund.  Please join us in a remote forum on December 6, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  You will learn what a housing trust fund is, how the fund functions and is managed, and the types of activities a trust can engage in.  Examples from other Massachusetts communities will also be shared.  The forum will be led by personnel from the Massachusetts Housing Partnership (MHP).

Essex Police Department Announces Street Closures To Keep Trick-or-Treating Safe on Halloween

Chief Paul Francis would like to notify residents that several streets in the Town Center will be closed on Halloween night to facilitate a safe trick-or-treating experience. Essex Police Department Performs Administrative Review of Cruiser Crash

Chief Paul Francis reports that the Essex Police Department has performed an administrative review regarding a single-vehicle crash involving a department cruiser earlier this month. At about 1 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, an Essex Police officer on routine patrol traveling southbound on Conomo Point Road toward Route 133 lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The cruiser was significantly damaged. The officer was not injured, though was relieved of duty as a precaution, and sent home for the remainder of their shift. The officer has resumed regular duty.
